Make the 'proposed quote' box optional (Job Posters)
Why do i have to come up with my own quote as i have no idea how much the job will be? By making it essential to answer i could be pricing myself out of getting quotes or opening myself up to being overcharged......surely I should post a job, and then get quotes back where I choose the best one?

Totally agree, remove this section.

Yup fully agree. The range of quotes I received for my first job illustrated just how tough it is for tradesmen to cost it let alone me as a punter.

Deinitely agree! this is the most stupid part of what is essentially a great site - it leaves us open to abuse. It shouldn't matter what price we propose, it can't cost less if we have a low budget and it SHOULDN'T cost more if we don't have a clue and put in too high a price

Definitely agree - I have recently posted a job and I didn't know how much to put - many of the people who quoted simply quoted the price I proposed - either I correctly GUESSED how much it should cost or they are trying to get more money than the job is worth. A tradesman should quote the price they want to charge and shouldn't be influenced by your proposed price. This way we will get a fair price for the job and the quotes will be more competitive!

agreed also, its hard to put a figure because often I have no idea how much something should cost

I agree. I have no idea of how much some jobs should cost and fear that I am either pricing myself out of getting any quotes or am letting myself in for a bigger bill than necessary. What about the option to say 'I don't know' or select price ranges?

Completely agree. I don't have a clue and it's just making a number up to get to the next stage in the process. A definite flaw in the system.

I fully agree...the whole quoting for your own job when you have no idea of how much it should cost, seems rather rediculous and puts the client in a difficult situation, where we could either be overpriced or losing potential traders?
Surely the professional traders should quote for the job after a site visit? -

I also found this a problem as I wanted a tradesman to tell me what it was going to cost!!
